About the Sher-e-Punjab T20 League

The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League is Punjab’s first franchise-based T20 tournament, organised by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA). Six city teams go head to head, and for the first time, squads are built through a player auction instead of state selectors picking sides.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann unveiled the league on 8 August 2026, calling it “Punjab’s own IPL.” That comparison isn’t far off either. The league puts India internationals into city-branded teams, backed by a proper auction, a salary purse, and a points table that decides who lifts the trophy.

Here’s the twist though: every player in this league is from Punjab. So while the format borrows heavily from the IPL, the talent pool stays entirely homegrown.

The Sher-E-Punjab T20 League 2026 is now underway, with 27 matches being played from August 30 to September 13 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. The action features 24 league-stage matches, followed by two semi-finals and the Final.

The league stage runs through September 11, with teams battling for a place in the knockout stage. The top contenders will then face off in the semi-finals on September 12, before the finalists meet for the championship on September 13.

How the Points System Works

Standard T20 league scoring applies here. A win earns two points, a loss earns zero, and a tie, no-result or abandoned match usually splits one point each.

When teams finish level on points, net run rate (NRR) decides the ranking. NRR is simply the gap between how fast a team scores its runs and how fast it concedes them, averaged across the whole tournament.

PCA hasn’t published the confirmed 2026 competition regulations yet, so exact points rules and tiebreakers will be updated here once officially released. This is the standard format used across most Indian domestic T20 leagues, so it’s a reasonable expectation for Sher-e-Punjab to follow the same pattern.

The 2026 Season

The maiden season runs from 30 August to 13 September 2026, played entirely at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. That’s the newer of Punjab’s two international grounds, roughly 10 km from the older I.S. Bindra Stadium in Sector 63, Mohali.

Six franchises compete: Fazilka Falcons, Ludhiana Lions, Amritsar Soormaaz, Jalandhar Warriors, Mohali Kings, and Bathinda Royals. Between them, they’ll play 27 matches across the tournament, with two games most days, including one under floodlights.

The format is round-robin, with each side playing eight league-stage matches before the competition moves into knockouts. And unlike most franchise leagues, eligibility here is tight. Every player, from the marquee names down to the district-level picks, has to be from Punjab. No overseas draft, no out-of-state signings. Just Punjab cricket, playing for Punjab cities.

Marquee & Icon Players

Six Indian internationals anchor the six franchises as marquee players, each signed at a fixed ₹10 lakh price before the auction even started.

Shubman Gill, India’s ODI and Test captain, leads Fazilka Falcons. Arshdeep Singh heads to Ludhiana Lions, while Abhishek Sharma takes charge of Amritsar Soormaaz. Prabhsimran Singh fronts Jalandhar Warriors, Ramandeep Singh anchors Mohali Kings, and Gurnoor Brar carries Bathinda Royals.

Below the marquee tier sits the icon category. Every franchise needs at least two icon players, picked at a ₹1.5 lakh base price, alongside domestic and emerging talent bought through the open auction. It’s a structure built to put India-capped stars in the same dressing room as under-19 hopefuls, and PCA officials have called that mix the whole point of the league.

Punjab’s Cricketing Pipeline

Punjab has never been short of cricketing talent. From Lala Amarnath through to Yuvraj Singh, and now Shubman Gill, Arshdeep Singh, Prabhsimran Singh and Harmanpreet Kaur, the state keeps producing players who go on to wear the India jersey, a point CM Mann made directly at the league’s launch.

According to Mann, more than 21 Punjab-born cricketers featured in IPL 2026 alone. The Sher-e-Punjab T20 League sits right in the gap between age-group cricket and that next step up, giving a district-level player a real shot at sharing a dressing room with a full India international.

PCA held the Sher-E-Punjab T20 League’s player auction on 9 August 2026 in Chandigarh, drawing from a shortlist of more than 450 Punjab-based cricketers. The results below cover the first half of the auction. PCA hasn’t released the complete sold list yet, so this table will update as more names get confirmed.

All-rounder Sanvir Singh was the auction’s headline pick, going to Fazilka Falcons for ₹13.20 lakh, the highest fee reported so far. He’ll now share a dressing room with marquee signing Shubman Gill.

Every marquee player (Gill, Abhishek Sharma, Arshdeep Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Ramandeep Singh and Gurnoor Brar) was signed at the fixed ₹10 lakh marquee price before the open bidding began.

Tournament History / Past Winners

BLV Blasters are the most successful team in Sher-E-Punjab T20 Cup history, winning both completed editions of the tournament: 2023 and 2024.

The 2024 final went down to the wire. Chasing 205 against Trident Stallions at I.S. Bindra Stadium, BLV Blasters got home with two balls to spare, a four-wicket win built around Harnoor Singh’s 83 off 52 balls.

Here’s the important part though: those wins came in a completely different format. Squads were picked by state selectors, not bought at auction, and none of 2023-24’s six teams carry forward into this season.

So while BLV Blasters own the history books, the 2026 Sher-e-Punjab T20 League starts its title race from scratch, with six new city franchises and a champion still very much to be decided.
